Background
Matla Innovation Company (Pty) Ltd focus on the development of technology based businesses based on a model of technology transfer using innovations acquired both locally (CSIR) and internationally (ITRI and similar agencies in the Far East).
These projects aim to explore and exploit the current market gaps which exist in South Africa, which relies on the importation of various goods or services due to the lack of access to technology and know-how.
Background of Matla
Matla Innovation Company was established by Zwelakhe Sisulu and Chia-Chao Wu in 2008, based on the concept jointly developed by the partners in 2007. The company’s primary focus is to set up niche black-owned South African businesses through the acquisition and adoption of technology and know-how which are not currently available in South Africa.
The primary objective of the venture is to access and acquire global technology in order to solve existing South African and African needs.
This is achieved through the identification, commercialization and transfer of technology and investment opportunities accessed via Matla’s extensive networks in South Africa, Taiwan, China and South Korea, as well as formal Memorandum of Understanding with the Industrial Technology Institute of Taiwan, Council for Science and Industrial Research in South Africa and the Industrial Development Corporation.
The company prioritizes projects which will either introduce new cutting edge technology or have the competitive advantage to replace existing imports.
The access to Asian technology institutions and business partners was set up through six comprehensive visit made by the Matla shareholders and representatives of different Government Department such as the Department of Trade and Industry, the Central Energy fund, National Home Builders Registration Council, East London IDZ and Industrial Development Corporation to various parts of the Far East since March 2007. |
